This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Scarlett, a senior cat and proven hunter.

Here is what her owner Pat had to say about her:

Scarlett got a second chance at a normal life four years ago after finding her forever home when she was 11 years old. She immediately found her spot with her new family, and quickly claimed her territory between her owners on the couch and on the bed.

Her big bright eyes and sweet demeanor are what first attracted us to Scarlett. If you inspect her a little closer, you will discover her special markings: black spots on her paw pads, a brown patch (her “nougat”) on her otherwise white belly, and a white-tipped tail.

Despite her domestic and indoor lifestyle, Scarlett is a proven hunter. She has caught cockroaches and a mouse, and diligently stands guard waiting for the next intruder.

Also a scavenger, Scarlett is undeterred when trying to steal chicken, cheese, popcorn, crackers, or tortilla chips from anyone who lets their guard down. She is very chatty, and demands treats whenever someone enters the apartment or picks up their keys to leave.

Last October, Scarlett skeptically welcomed a baby girl into our home. She was the perfect furry buddy during the pregnancy and our first months at home with the baby.

She expertly stays just out of arm’s reach, and found that baby gear can offer a great place for a catnap. We are so happy that we adopted this senior cat, and hope that more people consider adopting older cats to give them a good home for their golden years.

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Pixel, a Tibetan Terrier.

Here is what her owner Raquel had to say about her:

We love our pet, her name is Pixel. She is a Tibetan Terrier and is a 16 week-old puppy. Pixel is very playful, loves to jump, run and fetch balls. When she sees children, she gets very excited.

How she came into our lives is very special. It was December 19, 2016 and our beloved 17-year-old Shitzu Chicho had not been doing OK. His hips were displaced and he was under lots of pain. Unfortunately, we had to put him down. We were all sad, especially, my son, Nathan who would not stop crying. I decided to write about our beloved Chicho on Facebook.

The following morning, December 20, it was Nathan’s 8th birthday and a friend of mine who had seen my post of my deceased dog called me to say that she had a puppy for Nathan.

Her Tibetan Terrier had given birth to five puppies a few weeks prior and one of the people wanting one of the puppies had changed her mind. We rushed to my friend’s place and fell in love with the puppy-her. My son named her Pixel. He says he got the name from the Lego Ninjago movies; a lady robot.

Pixel loves walking at Bluebonnet park every day. She has this beautiful gait; walks with her neck long and straight and her legs seem to slide. We are planning to enroll Pixel in obedience classes so she can hopefully participate in a dog competition in the future.

What’s more important, Pixel is filling the void that Chicho left with her happiness and playfulness. She can play morning, afternoon and evening. Her excitement is contagious. We hope she lives with us for many years just like our beloved Shitzu.

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Bear, a 5-year-old Siamese mix cat.

Here is what her owner Linglu had to say about her:

Bear is a 5-year-old Siamese mix. She had a very humble beginning of life. When she was only a few weeks old, she was found in a drainpipe covered with fleas and she almost died. The nice volunteers at Madison-Greene Humane Society rescued her and nursed her back to health. She was then adopted by her human parents, an Arlington couple who were newlyweds at the time of her adoption.

Bear has a very strong personality. Her hobbies include getting high on catnip, chasing invisible ghosts around the house, trying to fit into the smallest box possible, sleeping on her daddy’s lap when he plays video games, stealing pastries from the kitchen counter, and nibbling her mommy’s leg when she prepares Bear’s meals.

Bear is a highly intelligent cat. She is very good at the Mad Scientist game (a toy where cats spin tubes to get treats). Her daddy even trained her to do tricks, such as sit, stay, come, shake hands, and high five. No wonder Bear’s parents love her dearly despite of all her quirkiness!
