Say hello to the wonderful Cheesecake, the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week!

This senior girl is currently in foster with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington and is ready for her forever home.

This is what her foster has to say about her:

Cheesecake is a darling senior lady looking for a sunny space to enjoy her golden years.

Meek and mild, she spends most of her days soaking in the sun with an occasional visit for head rubs and loving pets. She has the cutest little trot when she walks around the house and will lead you to her food bowl when it’s time to eat because she knows it like clockwork. She will always take you up on a treat!

Her perfect day is lots of warm naps followed by regular check-ins for head scratches and back rubs. She’ll reward you with a squeaky meow and loving purr.

Important facts about Cheesecake: while she is a senior cat she regularly demonstrates an ability to run and jump to get into cat trees and bedding perches. Cheesecake doesn’t particularly care to be held, but will sit beside you and is an ever present roommate. She would love a home where she can spend her days relaxing while you read a good book or snuggle on the couch with her.

Is Cheesecake the companion you’ve been looking for? To learn more, read her entire profile and email [email protected] to set up a meet and greet!

Meet Alfie and Eve, the newest Arlington Pet of the Week duo!

This Boston Terrier and ginger cat duo are living their best lives in Arlington.

Their owner had this to say about them:

Meet the cutest brother and sister pair since Luke and Leia.

Alfie enjoys snuggling with anyone with a blanket, especially his mom, barking at the vacuum cleaner for fear it will vacuum him, and chasing Eve at random times, especially when she gets close to the person with the blanket.

He treats dog parks like human parks, happily running up to and jumping on unsuspecting people, particularly those wearing light-colored pants. Since his best friend, Floof the Bernadoodle, moved away, he hasn’t bonded with another dog, but he seems to like those who he can pretend to dominate the most, whether they are okay with this approach or not.

I keep talking to him about consent, but it seems to fall on deaf ears.

Eve enjoys waking her parents up at the crack of dawn by throwing herself against their bedroom door until they can no longer ignore her. Once in said room, she likes to step on her parents’ alarm clock until she turns on the radio or sets an alarm for 3 am to scare the bejeezus out of them.

If there’s a crawl space to be discovered, she suddenly becomes Marco Polo, ensuring that every inch is explored and that her parents yell her name, looking for her for hours until she acknowledges that she is alive. Her age is unknown because although the Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue Team said she was a kitten, the cat dental surgeon who had to pull four of her teeth because of severe gum disease said her teeth put her age at roughly 5-7.

The cost of having to get all of her teeth pulled eventually will be like putting a child through private college, but she makes it all worth it by… well, we haven’t figured that out yet, but hopefully, she’ll give us motivation beyond scratching at our couch and giving us occasional purrs when we pet her.

The two of them have a love/torture/tolerate relationship, but I think they’d be pretty lonely without each other.

The newest Adoptable Pet of the Week is Cosmic Brownie!

This girl is an adorable pup who is up for adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Cosmic Brownie had this to say about herself:

I’m a bouncy pup who is still learning all about life in a home. I’m sweet as brownies and would like to rocket right out of this world on an adventure with you.

As a growing pup, I will need lots of attention and training to raise me just right. I am probably gonna grow up to be a big girl, so having excellent manners will make me a successful pet. I’m definitely still in my puppy phase, so be ready!

At AWLA I worked with trainers to ignore distractions, practice good manners, and connect to my handler on walks. In foster, I’ve worked on showcasing my cuteness and trying to explore my new home.

Meet the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week, Shelby!

Her friends at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington had this to say:

Shelby is the softest girl who will look at you adoringly with her pensive blue eyes.

She loves pets, particularly under her chin and on her butt. While she isn’t a total lap kitty yet, she likes to check in for a cuddle and some biscuit-making when she’s in the right mood. Shelby is still a bit nervous about new people, so she’ll probably benefit from a family that is happy to give her the time that she needs to settle in and gain her confidence.

She hasn’t shown much interest in toys or her feline foster sister, but she does really enjoy looking out the window and snoozing under pieces of furniture.

Meet River, the newest Arlington Pet of the Week!

This furry girl was born in California, but now calls the Long Branch Creek neighborhood her home.

Here’s what her owners had to say about River:

As an indoor cat, she makes the most of her apartment kingdom. She enjoys chasing reflected light, laser pointers and is adept at catching flies.

On warm days, she’ll settle into a sunspot on the carpet until her fur is hot to the touch.

Although shy around strangers and unhappy in cars, she is vocal and playful with her people.

River loves stick toys, and pays close attention whenever someone ties their shoe laces. She enjoys burrowing under blankets to sleep for hours, and is happiest when snuggling on a lap.

River is particularly proud of her tuxedo coloring and symmetrical handlebar mustache.

The newest Adoptable Pet of the Week is Leoni!

This girl is looking for a loving home to live out her retirement years in. She is currently in foster through the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Her friends had this to say about her:

Leoni is a sweet-natured golden girl that is looking to live out her retirement years in a peaceful, quiet environment where she can sit quietly and enjoy the comforts of her laundry basket.

Leoni’s favorite things are: Your comfiest laundry pile.

But she’s not so into: Mealtime interruptions. You binge Netflix, she binges Purina. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

Her special talents are: Minding her manners and snoring.

Her perfect day would be: Leoni is a senior gal, so she would be the perfect companion to someone who has left hustle culture behind!

If Leoni was an ice cream flavor, she would be: Strawberry. An underrated classic!

Important facts about Leoni: Leoni is pretty easy to care for — she eats well and uses her litter box without issue. She is aging and needs some help grooming the spots she can no longer reach (don’t we all).

Leoni has met children (no problem) and dogs whilst in foster care. Our team is happy to discuss how she might do in a new home when you arrive for your appointment!
