Say hello to the newest Arlington Pet of the Week, Oliver! This 6-year-old is a gentleman cat won’t say no to a meal or snack.

Here’s what his owner had to say about Oliver:

Meet Oliver!

Oliver is a six-year-old domestic shorthair cat and a connoisseur of the finer things in life. He soaks up the day napping in a sunbeam or in one of his favorite spots in the Madison Manor neighborhood of Arlington.

He also enjoys taunting his two brother dogs, Sparky the Schnoodle and Napoleon the Chihuahua. One of his favorite activities is eating, and he frequently checks his food bowl for snacks.

Adopted from the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, Oliver is a cancer survivor who had one front leg amputated in June. Despite these changes, Oliver is still able to accomplish many of his hobbies with sass to spare.

Although he was a mischievous kitten who earned the nickname Ruckus for his destructive tendencies, he has grown into a true Gentleman Cat who enjoys having his white belly scratched and patted on the daily.

Meet Kira, the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week! Kira is a sweet girl searching for her forever home.

Her friends at Animal Welfare League of Arlington had this to say about her:

Kira is the literal definition of ‘heart-meltingly cute’! Whenever someone comes to greet her, she starts to wag her long tail very fast. Once she is comfortable with you, she likes to lean into you.

Kira is a very sweet dog who is very perceptive and wants to please. She is super smart and responds to commands including sit, stay, up, down, paw (shake), wait and off. In the house, Kira is mostly a couch potato. She loves to curl up on a sofa, bed or a dog bed and chill with you. She is very self-sufficient and does well staying alone, including in a crate. She is also housebroken. She loves going for walks — she walks well on a leash and used to go hiking or running with her previous dog guardian.

Kira was rescued from Qatar and brought to the US as a puppy. She spent most of her life in a home where she was trained and well-loved and cared for. The last few months have been filled with many changes, so she has been a bit stressed. Kira’s sensitive personality means that she is looking for some specific things in her new home.

Kira seems to prefer feminine-presenting people and can be nervous around young children, men and some dogs. Kira is looking for a single person or a family who will be committed and patient with her as she takes time to settle into her new home. She has spent time with dogs who are older and mostly ignore her but may be overwhelmed by younger or more exuberant dogs. Our team would love to talk to you more about Kira and how she might fit into your family

Welcome the newest Arlington Pet of the Week duo, Tuco and Fig! These fluffy twins came from Pennsylvania, but now call Arlington home.

Tuco and Fig have a few things to say about their paw-fect life in Arlington.

Greetings from Tuco and Fig!

We came from humble beginnings from a farm in Pennsylvania. Thanks to our mom’s Tesla driving friend, we were whisked away to the city of Arlington, and are living a paw-fectly splendid life!

Life in the city was an easy transition for us twins because we have each other, and also the paw-somest parents. Our daily schedule consists of sunbathing on our balcony, wrestling with each other, and reposing wherever we want.

Also, people love coming up to us to pet us and take pictures of us. Once we got a free tote bag just for sitting on it. Why are humans ever stressed out??

Sometimes, we hang out with our best friends Tater Tot and Mister Waffles (who was a previous Pet of the Week). Dad hopes we get bigger than Tater Tot, because he says he is his “rival.” We don’t understand what that means, but we love our playdates together!

And mom made us an Instagram account @tucoandfig because she has no hobbies. Hopefully she takes a break from all the pictures of us, so we can take a nap before dinner.

Meet the sweetest Adoptable Pet of the Week, Mandy! This adorable girl is searching for her forever home and someone to play with.

Her friends at Animal Welfare League of Arlington had this to say about her:

Mandy is the sweetest, friendliest little girl to anyone and immediately comes over for attention!

She is so tiny and cute. She loves pets and chin scratches. She will sit as close as possible to you, and taps you with her paw when she wants more attention.

She just recently learned how to play! She likes the laser and ribbon wand, as well as the ball in a track, and tunnels.

Give a warm welcome to Cannoli, a rescue from Fort Worth who now calls Crystal City home, and our Arlington Pet of the Week!

This sweet boy from Texas loves everyone and his owner had the following to say about him.

Cannoli is new to the Arlington area this year. He comes to us as a rescue from Fort Worth, Texas, and has been enjoying making Crystal City his home.

He shows his ability to be a good boy by happily chewing his many bones, snuggling up for naps, and learning lots of tricks. Sit, shake, shake with the other paw, down, roll over, stay, and come are already in his repertoire!

On the other hand, his “gremlin behavior” comes through in howling at fluffy neighbors, digging at carpet, and teasing his dog park pals so they’ll chase him.

Whether it’s a Good Day or Gremlin Day, Cannoli loves everyone and enjoys his newfound popularity!

The newest Adoptable Pet of the Week is Kimchi, a black and white Guinea Pig.

Kimchi’s friends at  Animal Welfare League of Arlington had a few things to say about him:

Kimchi’s favorite things are: eating hay, snacking on treats like strawberries, sweet peppers, and carrots; snuggling in his cozy castle, and exploring his humans’ house.

Kimchi’s special talent is letting his humans know when he’s ready for a treat.

Kimchi’s perfect day would be hanging in a cozy, safe spot and having all the treats his little heart desires.

If Kimchi was an ice cream flavor, he would be: cookies and cream — not a showboat, but an enduring classic for a reason!

Important facts about Kimchi: Kimchi is a smaller piggie — not too much larger than a stick of butter! With his black and white coloring, makes him reminiscent of a newbie panda bear cub.

Is Kimchi the partner you’ve been looking for? Read his complete profile to learn more and how to arrange a virtual meet and greet.

Meet the adorable Sassy Sue, the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week.

This lovely girl loves exploring and is searching for someone who will love her for who she is.

Sue’s friends at Animal Welfare League of Arlington had this to say about her:

Sassy Sue’s favorite things are: Being outdoors with a stuffed kong and chew toys. She loves to explore. She can be a perfect running mate in the neighborhood.

Her special talents are: Sassy Sue knows “sit” and is working on “hand shake”. She is a good listener. Ask her to sit while waiting to put the food bowl down, she’ll wait until you say it’s okay.

Her perfect day would be: Running free in the backyard followed by a few chew toys or stuffed kong. A walk/run in the park, a few quick naps, dinner time, play time, then it is time for snuggling.

If Sassy Sue was an ice cream flavor, she would be: Rainbow Sherbet — sweet, bright and happy go lucky.

Important facts about Sassy Sue: She is house-broken, friendly with people, and gets along well with other dogs (sometimes she is too excited and we are still training her to be more calm). She is very food-motivated and can be easily trained.

*Sassy Sue has not met children/cats while in our care. AWLA team is happy to discuss these topics during your call/virtual appointment.*

Give a round of applause to the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week, Posh! Posh is a pretty and petite girl who loves playing with her sister Sporty.

Her friends at Animal Welfare League of Arlington, had this to say about Posh:

Posh is all personality and curiosity with petite and pretty features.

While she may start out a little shy, she is very curious and will explore her surroundings and show the way to her sister Sporty. She will follow you and likes to talk, especially while you walk into another room. She loves to chase her feather toys and jump on the chair and look out the window. She and her sister are very playful with one another and chase each other room to room. Posh enjoys ‘surprise attacking’ her sister throughout the day.

As much as they love to play with another and you, they are also loving and sweet and will sleep/snuggle together in their bed(s) or other household furniture.

Meet Benedict and Bertram, the latest Adoptable Pet of the Week duo! These two friends are a bonded pair looking for a forever home together.

Their friends at Animal Welfare League of Arlington, had this to say:

Meet Benedict and Bertram!

Admittedly, it is difficult to tell these two apart; same size, same age, same coloring! But when it comes to personality, you’ll quickly see Benny is the more curious of the pair, especially when it comes to questioning why you have stopped petting him. He’s the first to sniff out any changes to his space, including any new humans. His favorite thing is to snuggle up next to Bernie (Bertram) and spend the afternoon dozing off.

Bernie likes to sit back and let Benny do all the hard work of exploring anything new in the environment. If something/someone is deemed to be interesting enough, he quickly joins to see what all the fuss is about. Much of the time Bertram can be found content in a loaf, just happy he gets to hang with his bestie all day, everyday.

AWLA expanded their “Empty the Shelters” event through this weekend (July 22-24) as its kennel capacity has reached a “critical” level. Small animal adoption fees are free during the event.

Meet Narwhal, the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week! This gorgeous girl is an extrovert who loves to meet new people and looking for a forever home.

Her friends at Animal Welfare League of Arlington, had this to say:

She is a unique and gorgeous girl who has an amazing personality to go along with her look. Narwhal is the extrovert in the group that loves to meet all the neighbors and spend her time hanging out with her people.

Narwhal came to us as a timid dog, but has opened up to be a sweet and playful dog! She is quite the extrovert and hasn’t met a person she doesn’t like. Her favorite thing is so to play tug, chase balls, or smell new things in the neighborhood. She will nap happily during most of the day so she’s ready to play in the evenings.

While she doesn’t bark at things outside the house, she does like to share her thoughts and opinions with the people she loves.

AWLA is currently holding an “Empty the Shelters” event as its kennel capacity has reached a “critical” level.

“Our kennels are very full and more pets are coming in every day. We desperately need adopters and fosters,” said AWLA spokeswoman Chelsea Jones. “Until the end of the day Sunday, AWLA is taking part in Empty the Shelters, an adoption event with Bissell Pet Foundation. Adult dogs and cats are just $25 and small animals are FREE.”

Give a warm welcome to the newest Adoptable Pet of the Week, Alex! This 5-year-old girl loves bird watching and is looking for a forever home.

Alex is currently available for adoption through Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.

Her foster family had a few things to say about Alex:

Cuddle aficionado? Check! Champion bird watcher? Check! Cutest big rabbit ears this side of the Mississippi? Check! Alex is #1 on every count.

Alex has stolen her foster family’s hearts with her sweet meows, gorgeous face and loving demeanor. She loves her people more than anything and is happy to spend her days hanging out in her bed by your desk while you work from home. Other hobbies include watching Cat TV on YouTube, mealtimes (and snack-times), and playing with her wand toy. She is known to fall asleep to her foster mom singing to her at night before bedtime.

At 5 years old, Alex knows what she is about and what she wants. This girl is ready for a quiet life in a dog-free home with some adult (older teenagers OK) pals that she can love on. She would be happy to have a friendly cat pal, too!

Life can be scary for a little cat, but Alex is hoping to find her forever family that knows what it is like to live with anxiety and are ready to open their homes and hearts to her.

Are you and Alex a match? Check out her complete profile to learn more about the adoption process!
