Police Release More Details About Pentagon City Suspect Search

A brief manhunt that closed part of Army Navy Drive in Pentagon City Monday morning happened after two suspects peeled away from a traffic stop on I-395, went the wrong way down a ramp and then bailed out and fled on foot.

The Arlington County Police Department released additional details about the incident in its Tuesday crime report.

An 18-year-old Maryland man and a juvenile were both taken into custody after police established a perimeter and used a helicopter to search for them. Police say the car they were driving was stolen.

RECOVERED STOLEN AUTO (Significant), 2017-05080041, 2300 block of Arlington Ridge Road. At approximately 4:08 a.m. on May 8, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling without its lights on. The vehicle initially stopped, then allegedly accelerated at a high rate of speed and fled the scene by traveling the wrong way on the ramp to I-395. The vehicle continued on and eventually sustained damage that disabled its tires, causing the suspects to flee by foot. A perimeter was established with the assistance of the United States Park Police helicopter. An officer observed the two suspects nearby and they were taken into custody without further incident. Upon further investigation, it was determined the suspects had previously stolen a vehicle and were being investigated by Virginia State Police. Gabriel Neris, 18, of Hyattsville, MD was arrested and charged with GLA x2, 2 Credit Card thefts, Conspiracy, Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, No Operator’s License and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Charges were also filed on one juvenile suspect.

Men Charged With Firing Shotguns at Cars in Lyon Village

Two drunk men in their early 20s went on a vandalism spree Saturday morning, with a shotgun as their weapon of choice, according to Arlington County Police.

The shootings happened around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, on the 2800 block of Key Blvd in Lyon Village, police say.

“The suspects advised that they were intoxicated and wanted to remain in the area until sober,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow.com. “That’s when they retrieved the shotgun, walked through the neighborhood and discharged multiple rounds.”

Two men, from Springfield and Falls Church, were arrested with the help of a description provided by a witness. They are now facing numerous charges including discharge of a firearm in a public place and destruction of property.

ACPD Seeking Sexual Assault Suspect Who Posed As Maintenance Worker

A man posing as a maintenance worker sexually assaulted a woman in her Rosslyn apartment Sunday morning.

The attack happened around 9:45 a.m., on the 1500 block of Key Blvd, according to an Arlington County Police Department press release.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, a man believed to be in his early 20s, who was caught on video surveillance footage.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect involved in the sexual assault of a female victim which occurred at a residence in the 1500 block of Key Boulevard.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., an unknown male suspect entered the residential building and began knocking on various apartment doors claiming to be a maintenance worker. Once the female victim opened her door, a physical struggle ensued between the victim and the suspect. During the attack, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, approximately 6’0″ tall with a slim build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with dark pants and carrying a backpack.

Crime Report: Man Tried to Run Over Woman As She Crossed Street With Child

A man tried to run over a woman with his car, while she was crossing a street with her child, according to this week’s Arlington County Police crime report.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in the Nauck neighborhood. Warrants have been issued for the suspect on charges of attempted malicious wounding and destruction of property, according to police.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2017-05010138, 2400 block of S. Kenmore Street. At approximately 1:20 p.m. on May 1, officers responded to the report of an attempted malicious wounding. Upon arrival, it was determined a known male subject attempted to strike a female victim with his vehicle while she was walking across the street with her child. The female victim fell to the ground in an attempt to move out of the way. The subject then fled the scene in the vehicle. Warrants have been obtained for attempted malicious wounding and destruction of property. The investigation is ongoing.

Suspicious Package Investigation at Virginia Hospital Center

Police and firefighters are on scene at the Virginia Hospital Center emergency room investigating a suspicious package.

The hospital and the emergency room have remained open during the investigation.

No significant safety hazard has been reported but those heading to the hospital should expect police and fire department activity in the area.

Update at 2:15 p.m. — The incident was prompted by a “suspicious package received in the mailroom” of the hospital, according to Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage.

Update at 1:10 p.m. — The “all clear” has been given.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Washington Blvd Blocked By Fallen Tree

Update at 10:40 a.m. — The westbound lanes have reopened.

Washington Blvd is currently blocked in the area of 2nd Street S. due to a large fallen tree, according to scanner traffic.

Police are setting up roadblocks at Columbia Pike and Route 50 to divert traffic.

According to initial reports, the tree — located along the eastbound lanes — fell across all lanes of traffic around 10 a.m. One car was possibly struck by the tree but no injuries were reported.

Police and VDOT crews are working to reopen the westbound lanes; the eastbound lanes are likely to remain closed for an extended period of time.

Man Leads Police on Chase from Buckingham to Columbia Pike

A man led police on a chase down Glebe Road and Columbia Pike on Sunday afternoon.

The incident started around 3 p.m. when police were dispatched to the 4200 block of 2nd Road N. in Buckingham for a report of a “dispute in progress possibly involving a firearm.”

Police arrived on scene and located a man fitting the suspect description, but the man allegedly threw his car into reverse and sped towards an officer.

“The driver intentionally struck the officer but she did not sustain any injuries,” according to a police press release.

“A vehicle pursuit was initiated after the suspect fled from the scene traveling southbound on Glebe Road,” according to Arlington County Police. “The suspect turned onto Columbia Pike where he struck a vehicle at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Walter Reed Drive. The suspect exited his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.”

Police arrested 32-year-old Brian Williams and charged him with a number of crimes, including attempted malicious wounding on law enforcement, felony eluding, felony hit and run, misdemeanor identity theft and driving while suspended.

Williams was also wanted for other crimes in Arlington and in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Police: Woman Tried to Ram Officer’s Cruiser During Pursuit

Updated on 3/25/22 — The attempted malicious wounding charges were dropped in this case. The defendant pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor eluding charge and received two years of probation, according to court records.

A woman tried to ram a police cruiser during a vehicle pursuit last night near Crystal City, according to Arlington County Police.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Police say [redacted], 42, was driving down S. Eads Street with her headlights off when police tried to pull her over.

“The suspect continued to travel south on S. Eads Street into the dead end south of Glebe Road,” said ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “At that time, the officers attempted to block the road to conduct their stop. The suspect then conducted a multi-point turn and accelerated her vehicle directly toward one of the officers. The officer successfully reversed their vehicle to avoid the suspect’s attempted collision.”

“Officers initiated a pursuit of the suspect for Attempted Malicious Wounding on [a law enforcement officer],” Savage continued. “During the pursuit, officers attempted to stop the vehicle and twice the suspect displayed no intention of stopping and continued to operate the vehicle directly towards the officers.”

Eventually, [redacted] was taken into custody at the intersection of Eads and 23rd Street S. “without further incident.”

ATTEMPTED MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2017-04260319, block S. 23rd Street. At approximately 11:41p.m. on April 26, officers responded to the report of a check on welfare of an individual in a vehicle. Upon arrival, the officers observed a vehicle matching the description provided by the reporting party leaving the area. The vehicle was traveling without its lights on and the officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop by engaging their emergency equipment. The driver refused to stop their vehicle and allegedly attempted to strike the officer’s marked police vehicle. Following a vehicle pursuit in which the driver operated with disregard for traffic control and again attempted to strike the police vehicles, the driver was taken into custody without further incident. [Redacted], 42, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with three counts of Attempted Malicious Wounding of Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Felony Eluding. She is being held without bond.

Crime Report: Robbery in Buckingham

A man was robbed after getting out of his car, in the middle of the afternoon, Monday in the Buckingham neighborhood.

The strong-arm robbery happened on the 4200 block of N. Pershing Drive, a block of shops, restaurants and apartments just southwest of Glebe Road. The suspect stole the victim’s belongings and then drove off.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 24, officers responded to the report of a robbery by force that had just occurred. Upon arrival, it was determined as a male victim exited his vehicle he was grabbed from behind by an unknown male subject. The male subject then stole the victim’s belongings and fled the scene in a nearby vehicle. The subject is described as a black male in his forties, approximately 5’09”-6’0″ tall with a heavy set build. He was wearing a brown jacket and a black hat. The investigation is ongoing.
