Hundreds Without Power in South Arlington

A widespread power outage has left hundreds in the dark around Wakefield High School and the Columbia Forest neighborhood south of Columbia Pike.

As of 10 p.m., Dominion was reporting 865 customers without power in Arlington County. Many more were without power along Columbia Pike before their electricity was restored.

The first reports of an outage came in around 7:30 p.m., as storms rolled through the area.

Ballston’s SER Hoping to Reopen This Weekend, Following Severe Flooding

Spanish restaurant SER (1110 N. Glebe Road) is closed today after storms led to a partial roof collapse and flooding inside the eatery last night (July 25).

SER aims to be back open this weekend, according to a Twitter statement from restaurant proprietor Javier Candon.

“Last night, our building had a structural failure which resulted in us having to close the restaurant unexpectedly due to flooding,” the statement reads, in part. “As repairs begin, I just want to thank everyone for their support and patience.”

Candon also noted in the statement that no guests were harmed in the incident.

All of Two Ballston Plaza, the building in which SER is located, is closed today because of a power outage, according to a notice on its door. Ballston CrossFit, another tenant, posted on its Facebook page that flooding caused the outage.

Police Searching for I-66 Wrong-Way Driver — Police are still looking for the driver who crashed into another vehicle while driving the wrong way on I-66 near Rosslyn early Sunday morning, after being chased by a uniformed Secret Service officer who spotted the car driving the wrong way in D.C. Arlington Ridge Power Outage — Updated at 9:25 a.m. — A few dozen Dominion customers are without power in the Arlington Ridge and Pentagon City neighborhoods this morning due to an outage cased by “power line damage,” according to the utility’s website. Electricity is expected to be restored by 1 p.m. A tipster says the the Riverhouse apartments and some of the Pentagon Row shops were affected by the outage. Meanwhile, per Arlington County: “Arlington Ridge Road access from Washington Blvd as well as SB Arlington Ridge at S. Lynn Street will be closed for approximately 2 hours while Dominion Power repairs a damaged power line.” [Twitter]

APS Extended Day Website Survey — Arlington Public Schools is conducting a survey regarding its Extended Day management system. APS is considering a new system that would include an interactive parent portal, online registration, access to family accounts, and a database for family and staff information. Major Power Outage in Del Ray, Part of Arlington

Nearly 5,000 Dominion customers are without power this afternoon due to a major outage centered around Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood.

The outage extends as far south as King Street and as far north as Arlington’s water treatment treatment plant and the nearby residential neighborhood along S. Glebe Road. The traffic signal at the busy intersection of Glebe and Route 1 is also reported to be dark.

Dominion’s website says the cause of the outage is a “circuit out” and estimates that power will be restored between 6-11 p.m.

JUST IN: Mall Without Power After Outage Hits Pentagon City

Update at 4:20 p.m. — Power has been restored to the mall and most other places in Pentagon City.

Earlier: A large power outage has left much of Pentagon City in the dark this afternoon.

Large crowds are reported to be leaving the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City after the mall lost power. At least two people were reported to be stuck, and later freed by firefighters, on elevators overlooking the food court.

Traffic signals are dark along Army Navy Drive, including at the especially busy intersection of Army Navy Drive and S. Hayes Street, according to scanner traffic. Several Arlington County Police units are being dispatched to the area for traffic control.

Nearly 450 Dominion customers in the area are without power, according to the power company’s outage map. The cause of the outage is listed as “pending investigation,” though there was a report of a blown transformer in the area.

The estimated time of power restoration is listed as between 4-7 p.m.

Power Outage Along Columbia Pike

More than 1,000 Dominion customers along Columbia Pike were without power around lunchtime Friday.

The outage is mostly affecting the Douglas Park neighborhood and the Glebe Road corridor between the Pike and Walter Reed Drive. A number of traffic signals, including the lights at the busy intersection of Columbia Pike and S. Glebe Road, are reported to be out.

In total, as of 11:45 a.m. Dominion was reporting 1,246 customers without power in Arlington County.

Update at 12:10 p.m. — Power has been restored, according to Dominion’s website.

More Than 1,000 Without Power in Arlington

Update at 3:40 p.m. — Only 13 Dominion customers remain without power in Arlington.

Earlier: Parts of north and south Arlington are without power on this snowy Tuesday night.

Dominion’s power outage map is showing outages near the Westover neighborhood in the north and around Wakefield High School in the south. Just over 1,000 customers are without electricity, according to the company.

Thus far there is no estimated restoration time.

Dominion Crews Still Working to Fully Restore Power in Arlington

Some 330 Dominion customers in Arlington were still without power Monday morning, following Friday’s intense, prolonged wind storm.

Dominion crews worked throughout the weekend to restore electricity in Northern Virginia. The few hundred without power in Arlington was down from more than 14,000 as of Friday evening.

The power outages in Arlington are mostly smaller, with a few homes or a single home affected in a given area. Sometimes the outage is the result of the service line being ripped from the house by a falling tree.

Dominion is estimating full restoration to be complete by 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to its website.

The company says the “#windmageddon” storm is among the top 5 most damaging storms in Dominion history, with about 700,000 customers losing power. Dominion had nearly 4,000 personnel working to restore power over the weekend, including hundreds called in from out of state.
