A man pushed a woman to the ground and tried to take her money last Wednesday along Columbia Pike, but fled after a witness intervened.

ROBBERY, 151118069, 3200 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 10:35 p.m. on November 18, a 19 year-old female victim was shoved to the ground after a male subject attempted to steal change from her. The suspect fled the scene after a witness tried to intervene. Marlow Dugger, 37, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery. He is being held on a $5,000 bond.

Arlington police carA local man fought back against two guys who tried to steal his briefcase Tuesday night.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. on the 2900 block of S. Glebe Road, near the Arlington Ridge Shopping Center. Police say the pair approached the man from behind and tried to take the case, but fled after the man sprayed one of the suspects with pepper spray.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, 151117051, 2900 block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 8:11 p.m. on November 17, two unknown male subjects approached a victim from behind and attempted to steal his briefcase. The victim was able to spray one of the subjects with pepper spray causing them both to flee. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’5″ tall and weighed 200 lbs. He was wearing a dark colored sweater, dark colored jeans, and a black ski mask. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’5″ tall and weighed 200 lbs. He was wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, stone washed jeans, boots, and a ski mask.

Arlington County police carA 7-Eleven store in the Shirlington area was robbed Tuesday night.

Police say a man and a woman robbed the convenience store on the 2800 block of S. Wakefield Street around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday. They also allegedly assaulted a 55-year-old man who works at the store.

“The first suspect is described as a black male in his thirties, approximately 6’2″ and weighed 225 lbs, He was wearing a black zip-up hoodie, black sweatpants, black hat, black/red sneakers, and gloves.,” according to an Arlington County Police crime report. “The second suspect is described as a black female in her late twenties, approximately 5’5″ and weighed 130 lbs. She was wearing a black puma sweatshirt, black leggings, and black sneakers.”

The store is popular with residents of Shirlington and the nearby Fairlington neighborhood.

Police say four women tried to steal items from a store, then sprayed pepper spray at the employees as the fled.

As they were fleeing, one of the subjects sprayed two employees with pepper spray. The first suspect is described as a black female in her twenties, with an average height. She was wearing a tan hat, black jacket, maroon pants, and brown UGG boots. The second suspect is described as a black female in her twenties, with an average height. She was wearing shiny black leggings and a multi-colored jacket. The third suspect is described as a black female in her twenties, with an average height. She was wearing a knit cap, a hooded jacket, jeans, and black boots. The fourth suspect is described as a black female in her twenties, with an average height. She was wearing a black hat, jeans, and black boots.

ROBBERY, 151021003, 4400 block of S. 31st Street. At approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 21, a 48 year-old male cab driver was assaulted and robbed by an unknown male subject. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties with a thin build. He was wearing a grey hoodie and dark jeans at the time of the incident.

ROBBERY, 151014058, 4300 block of N. 2nd Street. At approximately 10:40 p.m. on October 14, an unknown male subject robbed a 50 year-old male victim of his wallet. The suspect is described as a black male in his twenties, approximately 5’7″-5’9″ tall and was wearing a grey sweatshirt at the time of the incident.

ROBBERY, 151019027, 700 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 3:00 p.m. on October 19, a loss prevention officer was assaulted while trying to stop two subjects from shoplifting. Yesenia Yvette Echegoyen, 19, of Falls Church, Va, was arrested and charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit larceny. Kelly Michelle Fuentes, 19, of Alexandria, Va, was arrested and charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, and providing false identification.

ROBBERY, 151019020, 1700 block of S. Clark Street. At approximately 1:20 p.m. on October 19, an unknown male subject robbed a 28 year-old female victim of her phone. The suspect is described as a black male in his early twenties, approximately 5’8″ tall and weighed 160-180 lbs. He was wearing a green jacket and black pants at the time of the incident.

Robbery suspect (Courtesy of ACPD)The Arlington County Police Department is looking for a suspect who was caught on camera during a gas station burglary in the Leeway Overlee neighborhood.

Police say that a man smashed in the glass door of the Shell service station at 5630 Lee Highway around 6 a.m. on Aug. 19. He was seen on camera placing cartons of cigars and cigarettes into a cardboard box.

The suspect then fled westbound Lee Highway, police said.

“The suspect is described as a black male with an athletic build and had chest length dreadlocks,” police said in a press release today. “He was wearing a black v-neck t-shirt, denim jeans and dark sneakers at the time of the incident. In one of the surveillance images, a tattoo is captured on the subject’s upper right arm.”

Arlington police carThe Arlington County Police Department is seeking witnesses that can provide more information about an “assault by mob” and robbery that happened on Saturday, Aug. 1 in Clarendon.

A 22-year-old man was attacked between 2-2:30 a.m. at the corner of Wilson Blvd and N. Filmore Street. He was hit on the back of the head and lost consciousness, police say.

The man was transported to Virginia Hospital Center for treatment of injuries. His driver’s license, military ID and cash were stolen.

At least one witness came to the man’s aid, but he left the scene, according to a police report.

Police car lightsA man and two boys were taken into custody after allegedly stealing alcohol from a local 7-Eleven store.

The incident happened at the 7-Eleven store on S. Carlin Springs Road across the street from Kenmore Middle School. Police say the trio entered the store late Monday night, stole some booze and shoved the clerk on their way out.

ROBBERY, 150811004, unit block of S. Carlin Springs. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on August 10, two juvenile suspects and an adult suspect entered a 7-11 and stole alcohol. When confronted by a clerk they pushed him aside and fled. Richard William Shelton, 25, of Arlington VA, was arrested and charged with robbery and 6 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The juveniles were released in the custody of their parents.

Arlington County police car(Updated at 4:05 p.m.) A slim man with blond hair and a red backpack stole another man’s wallet in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood last Friday, according to police.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on the 5200 block of 8th Road S. Police say the man approached the victim and demanded money — but he apparently did not specify how much.

“The victim gave the suspect one dollar and the suspect asked for more,” according to the daily Arlington County crime report. “As the victim was opening his wallet to give the suspect more money, the suspect snatched the wallet and fled the scene.”

“The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5’7″, slim build with blonde hair wearing a white shirt, grey shorts and a red backpack,” the crime report continued. “The investigation remains ongoing at this time.”


Police car lightsA man was robbed by a team of thieves on Columbia Pike early Wednesday morning, according to this week’s Arlington County crime report.

Police say a male suspect put the victim in a chokehold while a female suspect went through his pockets and stole a cell phone.

From the ACPD:

ROBBERY, 150325003, 5100 block of Columbia Pike. At 12:38 am on March 25, an unknown male suspect placed the victim into a choke hold while a female suspect went through his pockets and stole his T-mobile cell phone. The male suspect was described as a black male in his 20’s, approximately 6’0 and 230 lbs. He was wearing a dark color baseball cap, dark long sleeve shirt and dark color pants. The second suspect was described as a black female in her 20’s. The suspects fled the scene on foot prior to officers arrival.

Last weekend, police found a man who had been knocked out, lying on the ground in Clarendon. A 49-year-old Woodbridge man was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 150322006, 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard. At 12:30 am on March 22, officers located a 26 year old male victim on the ground and unresponsive. The victim was transported to George Washington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation revealed that the suspect assaulted the victim. Ivan Deloria, 49, of Woodbridge, VA, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. The suspect was held with not bond.

Police car lightsA knife-wielding man robbed a dollar store and on S. Four Mile Run Drive last week and used a slightly unorthodox method of obtaining cash.

Police say the man ran off with the store’s cash register and, a short distance away, smashed it on the ground to open it. He then fled in a getaway vehicle with his pilfered cash.

ROBBERY, 150219028, 4100 block of S. Four Mile Run Drive. At approximately 2 pm on February 19, a male subject entered the Dollar Up store and brandished a knife at an employee. The subject grabbed the cash register and fled the store on foot. A short distance later the suspect is seen slamming the register on the ground and taking an undisclosed amount of money before driving off in a getaway vehicle. The suspect is described as a black male in his fifties. He was wearing a dark colored winter coat and brown beanie.

(Updated at 3:30 p.m. on 12/23/21) Security officers at Ballston Common Mall swarmed to prevent two theft suspects from getting away Saturday night.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Police say the two men were trying to leave Macy’s with concealed clothing items when they were confronted by a security officer.

The suspects assaulted that officer, but were detained by additional security employees, according to police.

The men, both Manassas area residents, were arrested and charged with robbery.

ROBBERY, 150221043, 700 block of N. Glebe Road. At 6:25 pm on February 21, a loss prevention officer at the mall confronted two subjects as they attempted to leave a store with concealed merchandise. The subjects assaulted the employee but were detained by additional mall security officers until police arrived. Ezra [Redacted], 20, of Manassas Park, VA, was arrested and charged with robbery and driving on a suspended license. Gay Lord Balmilero [Redacted], 23, of Manassas, VA, was arrested and charged with robbery. Both subjects were held without bond.
