Crime Report: Man Beaten, Robbed After Meeting Woman Online

A man was beaten and robbed after inviting a woman he had met online to his apartment.

According to this week’s Arlington County crime report, the tattooed woman and an accomplice assaulted the 31-year-old victim at his apartment in the Douglas Park neighborhood near Randolph Elementary School.

ROBBERY, 140315006, 4300 block of S. 12th Street. On March 14 at 11:30 pm, a 31 year-old male victim invited a female subject to his apartment that he had met online. She arrived to the residence and made a phone call to another male subject, who arrived and physically assaulted the victim. The victim had his wallet and cell phone stolen. Suspect one is described as a white female, approximately 5’4″, 120 pounds with blonde hair and tattoos all over her arms. She was wearing a pink shirt and black tights at the time of the incident. Suspect two is described as a black male, approximately 6’2″, 200 pounds with short hair and was wearing a black shirt at the time of the incident.

Do-Gooders Help Police Chase Down Alleged Thief

(Updated at 2:20 p.m on 12/23/21) Two shoppers helped the Arlington County Police Department arrest a suspect accused of robbery in Ballston yesterday.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on the 900 block of N. Stuart Street, about a block away from Ballston Common Mall.

The suspect — Zachary [Redacted], 22, of Springfield, Va. — allegedly pushed a 65-year-old man down while he was trying to withdraw money from an ATM and stole the man’s two wallets. According to police, that’s when two witnesses took action.

“Two patrons of an adjacent shop witnessed the robbery and immediately chased the suspect on foot,” according to a police press release. “During the chase, one of the witnesses was able to flag down an Arlington County officer, who joined the chase and apprehended the suspect shortly after in a parking lot in the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive.”

The victim was not hurt. [Redacted] was charged with robbery. He’s currently being held at the Arlington County Detention Facility after his bond was denied.

Update at 5 p.m. — [Redacted] is a competitive figure skater and works as a skating coach at nearby Kettler Capitals Iceplex, we’re told.

Strong Arm Robbery Near Clarendon Metro

Arlington County police carPolice are investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred just past midnight this morning in Clarendon.

The incident happened on the 1200 block of N. Herndon Street, about two blocks from the Clarendon Metro station, according to the crime report.

“At 12:20 am on January 31, a 28 year-old male victim was stopped by two subjects on the sidewalk. One of the subjects held the victim’s throat while the other subject went through his pockets,” the crime report states. “The suspects fled the scene on foot with the victim’s keys.”

“Suspect one is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’9” tall and 160 lbs. He was wearing a red Under Armour sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of the incident,” the report continues. “Suspect two is described as a Hispanic male, 5’9” tall and 160 lbs, wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans.”

Police: Man Arrested for Brandishing Gun at Tow Truck Driver

Police car lightsA Woodbridge man is facing felony charges after allegedly pulling a pistol on a tow truck driver who was trying to tow his car near the Arlington Ridge Shopping Center.

The incident happened around 10:45 this past Friday night. According to police, the tow truck driver — who was working for a private company, not Arlington County — was in the process of towing a vehicle from the 2900 block of S. Glebe Road for a parking permit violation when the vehicle’s owner approached him.

“The subject pulled a pistol on him forcing the victim to release the car,” according to the police report. “The subject fled the scene and was located a short time later by police.”

Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said Woodbridge resident William Eugene Jones Jr., 36, was spotted by officers close to the original crime scene after a lookout was broadcast.

Jones Jr. was arrested and charged with robbery, use of a firearm in committing a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, brandishing and possession of a concealed weapon. He was held without bond.

Teen Robbed for His Shoes

Police car lightsPolice are looking for a suspect who robbed a teenager of his shoes on Friday (December 13) in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood.

According to police, the suspect approached the 15-year-old victim around 8:25 p.m. in the 5100 block of 8th Road S. and put him in a choke hold. The suspect demanded the victim’s Nike Foamposite shoes, shoved the victim and then fled.

The victim was not seriously injured and was not transported to the hospital.

Police describe the suspect as a dark skinned Hispanic male with a light beard, approximately 5’10”, 160 pounds and around 20 years old. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black jacket and dark pants. Another person was with the suspect at the time of the robbery, but was not directly involved in the incident. The second person is described as a light skinned male, approximately 6’2” with a heavy build. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black jacket and dark jeans and had a black backpack with him.

Police Investigate Early Morning Home Invasion

Arlington police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred overnight.

According to a police report, the robbery took place on S. Montana Street, between Kenmore Middle School and the border with Falls Church. A suspect broke into a home around 3:00 a.m. and robbed a victim at knifepoint in his bedroom.

ROBBERY/HOME INVASION, unit block of S. Montana Street. At 3:08 am on November 22, a suspect entered a third floor bedroom and demanded money from a 50 year-old victim at knifepoint. The suspect was able to get cash and the victim’s ATM card before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage caught the suspect attempting to withdrawal money from a nearby ATM. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’8” tall and 160 lbs. He was wearing a brown mask, long sleeve shirt and dark pants with paint spots on them.

Smash-and-Grab Leader Gets 20 Year Sentence

The leader of a smash-and-grab robbery crew that committed more than 20 robberies around the D.C. area, including one at the Tourneau store in the Pentagon City mall, has received a lengthy jail sentence.

District resident Walter Douglas, 34, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and, along with his co-defendants, ordered to pay $1.25 million in restitution. From the U.S. Attorney’s office:

Walter Douglas, 34, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced today to 240 months in prison for his role in a series of smash-and-grab robberies. Douglas and his co-defendants were also ordered to pay $1,251,978.75 in restitution to the victims of these robberies.

Dana J. Boente, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Valerie Parlave, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office; Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr., Fairfax County Chief of Police; M. Douglas Scott, Arlington County Chief of Police; and J. Thomas Manger, Montgomery County Chief of Police, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema.

Douglas pleaded guilty on August 8, 2013. According to court documents, Douglas was a leader of a smash-and-grab robbery crew that committed over twenty robberies in the Washington, D.C. area and elsewhere. The crew entered various high-end retail establishments as a group, and through force and intimidation, stole merchandise from the stores. Douglas and his crew stole over $1,000,000 in merchandise during the robbery spree from retailers such as Tourneau, Cartier, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus.

This case was investigated by the FBI and the Fairfax County, Arlington County, and Montgomery County Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan Fahey and Special Assistant United States Attorney Edward Reilly prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.

Treasurer Makes Deal for iPark Refills — Arlington County Treasurer Frank O’Leary has struck deals to allow the county to refill iPark devices, while adding more devices to the cache that can be used to replace non-functioning units. The county paid $10,000 to the bankrupt manufacturer of the devices for the codes necessary to add value without additional authorization or payment to the company. The move comes about a month and a half after the company’s bankruptcy suddenly prevented the county from refilling the devices. [Sun Gazette]

Man Gets 10 Year Sentence for Custis Trail Robbery — A 23-year-old D.C. resident has received a 10 year sentence for a robbery on the Custis Trail that left a jogger with a head injury and lingering cognitive effects. The attacker and his 17-year-old brother, who’s expected to receive a 1.5 to 3 year sentence, were both arrested as they fled toward the Ballston Metro Station. The victim, a 55-year-old personal trainer, says he still suffers from headaches, nightmares and memory loss. [Washington Post]

Remembering Allison’s Tea House — From the 1920s to the 1950s, Allison’s Tea House, at 1301 S. Arlington Ridge Road, was “a coveted neighborhood restaurant… that had been visited by dignitaries including Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt.” The restaurant’s iconic stone well house was preserved after the restaurant and its grounds were redeveloped into an apartment building in the 1960s. It still stands, and is used as storage for the apartment’s swimming pool. [Preservation Arlington]

ACPD Participating in Drug Take-Back Day — The Arlington County Police Department is participating in National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at fire stations No. 1, 8 and 9, officers will collect expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. “The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked,” police say in a press release. Police: Women Pepper Sprayed Employees During CVS Robbery

Arlington County Police are looking for two women suspected of stealing cosmetics from a CVS store and pepper spraying two employees who tried to stop them.

The alleged robbery took place at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at the CVS Pharmacy at 256 N. Glebe Road in Buckingham. This afternoon, police released surveillance images from the store in an effort to solicit the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Burglary/Larceny Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating two suspects involved in a larceny and assault incident at a CVS Pharmacy store.

The suspects entered the CVS Pharmacy, located in the 200 block of N. Glebe Road, at 3:30 a.m. on September 23, 2013. Suspect one was captured on surveillance video placing numerous cosmetic items in two handbags. Suspect two was serving as a lookout in the aisle. After securing the items, suspect one proceeds to the self checkout and pretends to pay for the items. When she attempts to exit the store, an employee confronts her and she discharges pepper spray in his face. A second employee attempts to intervene and she is also pepper sprayed. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown type vehicle.

Suspect one is described as a black female in her 20’s, approximately 6’0” tall and 180 lbs. She was wearing green pants, a white t-shirt and tan flats at the time of the incident. Suspect two is described as a black female with a thin build. She was wearing a blue jean jacket and black yoga style pants.

Fisette Weds Long-Time Partner — Arlington County Board member Jay Fisette married long-time partner Bob Rosen last week. After 30 years together, the couple tied the knot in a low-key ceremony at All Souls Unitarian Church in the District. Fisette and Rosen’s union will not be recognized in Virginia, but Fisette said he thinks that same-sex marriage will be legalized in the Commonwealth within five years. [Sun Gazette]

Smash-and-Grab Lookout Sentenced — The man who served as a lookout in a series of smash-and-grab robberies in the D.C. area, including this robbery at the Tourneau store in Pentagon City, has been sentenced. Reevesland Group Refines Proposal — A group that wants to convert the historic Reeves farmhouse into an agricultural learning center for school children has submitted a proposal to Arlington County. The group says its volunteers will lower the cost of necessary renovations to the building by 30 percent. It has offered to operate the center and make it available to Arlington Public Schools. In exchange, the group wants the county to pay for renovations (about $700,000), ongoing maintenance costs and utilities. [Sun Gazette]

Crime Report: Rosslyn Robbery Foiled By Lack of Cash

Two men tried to rob a fast food restaurant in Rosslyn last Thursday night.

According to police, the armed men demanded cash, but fled the scene after they were told that the restaurant had no money. From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY, 09/12/13, 1700 block of N. Lynn Street. At 10:46 pm on September 12, two subjects attempted to rob a fast food establishment at gunpoint after hours as employees were cleaning. The subjects fled the scene on foot when they were told there was no money. The suspects were described as black males, wearing all black clothing and masks.
