Crime Report: Man’s Face Slashed in Ballston

A man was slashed in the face by a knife-wielding suspect in Ballston this past Saturday night, police say.

The incident happened just before 6 p.m. on the 4000 block of 5th Road N. — a block that includes restaurants, a yoga studio, a towing lot and the rear of a Mercedes-Benz dealership.

Police say the victim suffered a non-life-threatening cut to the face and the suspect was taken into custody. The motive for the alleged crime is unclear.

“The suspect was consuming alcohol prior to the incident,” said Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “What preceded the incident remains under investigation.”

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2017-08260207, 4000 block of 5th Road N. At approximately 5:58 p.m. on August 26, officers responded to a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival it was determined that a known suspect struck the victim in the face, causing a laceration. The victim was transported to Virginia Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. Jeffery Warren, 55, of Stafford, VA was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding and held with no bond.

Also in the crime report, a man has been charged with aggravated sexual battery after allegedly “playing with children in an inappropriate way” in the Aurora Highlands neighborhood.

AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY, 2017-08230184, 2700 block of S. Fern Street. At approximately 3:20 p.m. on August 23, police responded to the report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, police met with a female victim who observed the male suspect playing with children in an inappropriate way. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect touched two minor females in a sexual manner. Marlon Cardona-Orellana, 38, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

Crime Report: D.C. Man Charged With Sexual Battery After Grabbing Girl at Mall

A D.C. man has been arrested and charged with sexual battery after an incident at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City mall yesterday.

Just after noon police were called for a report of a man who had grabbed a teenage girl’s buttocks in the mall, according to scanner traffic.

Based on witness statements, police identified a suspect and took him into custody.

SEXUAL BATTERY, 2017-08220140, 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 12:18 p.m. on August 22, police were dispatched to the report of a possible assault. Upon arrival, it was determined that a male suspect  allegedly touched a minor inappropriately while inside a store. During the course of the investigation, officers identified a possible suspect based on the description provided by witnesses. The suspect was located in the area and taken into custody without incident. Rivera Barmett, 26, of Washington D.C. was arrested and charged with sexual battery. He was held without bond.

Crime Report: Woman Touched Inappropriately on Bus

Police car lightsArlington County police responded to Clarendon this past Friday morning for a reported sexual battery incident.

A woman told officers that she had been touched inappropriately by a man who sat next to her on a bus.

From this week’s Arlington County Police Department crime report:

LATE SEXUAL BATTERY, 2016-12020127, 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard. At approximately 10:49 a.m. on December 2, officers responded to the report of a late assault. A female victim boarded a bus and a male subject sat next to her. During the course of the bus ride, the male subject touched the female victim inappropriately. The suspect is described as a black male in his late thirties, approximately 5’0″-5’5″ tall and weighed 140-200 lbs. He was wearing dark brown pants and a light brown jacket.

Crime Report: Liquid Poured On Woman’s Head Before Cash Stolen from Purse

Police car lightsA woman was walking down the street in the Pentagon City area Friday morning when some sort of liquid was poured on her head, apparently as part of a theft scheme.

Two women who were walking behind the victim at the time offered to help clean up the liquid. After the encounter, the victim walked away, only to realize that cash had been stolen from her purse.

From an Arlington County Police report:

GRAND LARCENY FROM A PERSON (significant), 160923027, 1400 block of S. Eads Street. At approximately 9:54 a.m. on September 23, officers responded to the report of a grand larceny from a person that had just occurred. When on scene, it was determined that a female victim was walking on the sidewalk when she felt an unknown liquid being poured on the back of her head. The victim turned around and two Hispanic females offered to help clean off the substance. The victim then continued to walk off and later realized an undisclosed amount of cash was missing from her purse. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic female, approximately 5’6″ tall and weighed 150 lbs. She was wearing a long sleeve blue and white dress and dark pants. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic female, approximately 5’6″ tall and 150 lbs. She was wearing a long sleeve shirt and pants.

Also in this week’s report, a man was arrested in the Courthouse area Saturday morning after he allegedly walked up to a woman on the sidewalk and grabbed her breast.

SEXUAL BATTERY, 160924027, 1800 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 10:25 a.m. on September 24, a female victim was walking on the sidewalk when a male subject approached her and grabbed her breast. The victim screamed causing the suspect to flee the scene. Officers located and apprehended the subject shortly after. Ramy Gabry, 23, of an unknown address, was arrested and charged with sexual battery. He is being held without bond.

Crime Report: Sexual Assaults in Rosslyn

Police car (file photo)Arlington County Police reported two sexual assault incidents in the Rosslyn area in its Friday crime report.

One incident happened near the Iwo Jima memorial, as a woman was walking home from the Rosslyn Metro station around 10 p.m.  Police say a man in a ski mask approached the woman, possibly exposed himself and grabbed her inappropriately.

From ACPD:

SEXUAL ASSAULT, 160721005, 1200 N. Meade Street. At approximately 10pm a female was walking from the Rosslyn metro to her residence when she was approached by a white male wearing a ski mask. As the suspect approached he lifted his shorts up, possibly exposing himself. The victim walked away from the man, who then groped her in the crotch area. The man fled the scene and is described as a White or Hispanic male, 5’8″ with an athletic build, wearing a black ski mask, long sleeve shirt, silver basketball shorts, and black Vans sneakers.

The other crime happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 1700 block of Clarendon Blvd, near the intersection with N. Quinn Street.

SEXUAL ASSAULT, 160721043, 1700 N. Clarendon Blvd. At approximately 6:30pm a female was walking on Clarendon Blvd. near Quinn Street when a man on a bicycle approached her from behind and grabbed her breast. The suspect is described as a husky White male wearing a dark colored bike helmet, maroon shirt, gray khaki shorts and white shoes.

Police: Man Touched Woman With His Genitals As She Was Walking in Courthouse

Police car (file photo)A woman fought back against a suspect after he touched her with his genitals as she was walking down the street.

The incident happened last night, just after 11:10 p.m., on the 1900 block of Wilson Blvd in the Courthouse area.

“As a female victim was walking on the north side of Wilson Boulevard, an unknown male subject approached a victim with his genitals exposed and placed them on her,” said an Arlington County Police Department crime report. “The victim fought back, creating distance and causing the suspect to flee.”

“The victim described the suspect as a short, dark-skinned male wearing a black hoodie,” said ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “The suspect fled on foot eastbound on Wilson towards N. Rhodes Street. Officers canvassed the area with negative results. A K-9 track could not be conducted due to heavy rainfall.”

Police: Man Grabbed Woman’s Underwear in Virginia Square

Police car (file photo)A woman walking down the street in Virginia Square Wednesday night was grabbed by a stranger who reached underneath her dress.

The man grabbed the woman’s underwear, then fled the scene. A police dog attempted to track the suspect down but lost his scent.

From an Arlington County Police crime report:

SEXUAL BATTERY, 160525052, 3800 block of N. Fairfax Drive. At approximately 10:45 p.m., a female victim was walking down the street when an unknown male subject reached his hand underneath her dress and grabbed her underwear. The subject fled the scene on foot and a K9 track in the area was negative. The subject is described at a black male, 20-30 years old, approximately 6ft tall with an average build.

Also Wednesday evening, a 19-year-old Arlington man was charged with being drunk in public, having a fake ID and attempting to bribe the officer who was taking him to jail.

ATTEMPT TO COMMIT BRIBERY OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, 160525042, 4900 block of N. Lee Highway. At approximately 5:27 p.m., officers were dispatched to the report of an intoxicated male subject. When the officers arrived, the subject provided them with a false identification. During transport to booking, the subject became agitated and offered to pay the officer to allow him to leave without charges. Ryan McNulty, 19, of Arlington VA was charged with Attempt to Commit Bribery, Possession of a Fictitious license (x2), Provide False ID to Avoid Arrest, Underage Consumption of Alcohol and Drunk in Public.

Crime Report: Delivery Driver Arrested After Punching Man Who Was Filming Him, Fighting With Officers

Police car (file photo)A delivery driver was arrested in the Ballston area Saturday morning and charged with assaulting police and a local residents.

The incident started around 6:45 a.m., when a resident on the 700 block of N. Tazewell Street started filming the driver and called police with a noise complaint, all as part of “an ongoing dispute [regarding] the time of deliveries.”

A verbal dispute between the resident and the driver ensued, leading the driver to punch the resident in the face, according to Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage.

When police arrived, the driver was confrontational and struck at least one officer, Savage said. From and ACPD crime report:

ASSAULT ON POLICE, 160423017, 700 block of N. Tazewell Street. At approximately 6:48 a.m. on April 23, officers were dispatched to a noise complaint regarding an ongoing dispute between the time of deliveries. The victim was recording the incident when they were struck in the face by the subject. The subject became combative when officers arrived on scene but subsequently was taken into custody. Roderick Watt, 41, of Wilkes Barre Pa, was charged with assault on police (2 counts), obstruction of justice, and assault and battery. He was held on a secured bond.

A second incident of an assault on police happened later that night, in the Nauck neighborhood, according to the crime report.

ASSAULT ON POLICE, 160423049, 2400 block of S. 24th Road. At approximately 10:42 p.m. on April 23, officers conducted a traffic stop in regards to a suspended license. During the stop, the passenger became combative, pushed an officer to the ground, and fled on foot. Officers were able to apprehend Justin Murray, 31, of Alexandria VA. He was charged with assault on police, obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana(second offense), and failure to identify to law enforcement. He is being held without bond.

Also Saturday night, according to police, two drunk men were arrested after they both grabbed the buttocks of a woman and then started fighting. The incident started as all three were leaving an establishment near the intersection of Columbia Pike and S. Four Mile Run Drive.

The men were both charged with sexual battery and being drunk in public, according to the crime report.

SEXUAL BATTERY, 160423043, 4800 block of S. Columbia Pike. At approximately 9:40 p.m. on April 23, officers responded to the area for reports of two males fighting. When officers arrived on scene a female advised that her buttocks was grabbed by both suspects. . Carlos Rivas Martinez, 22, of Arlington VA, was charged with sexual battery and drunk in public. He was held on an unsecured bond. Lorenzo Rivas Martinez, 20, of Arlington VA, was charged with sexual battery and drunk in public. He was held on a secured bond.

Crime Report: Young Man Gropes Butt, Teen Smashes Mug on Man’s Head

A young man groped a woman’s butt while she was walking in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood last Friday morning.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

SEXUAL BATTERY, 160108021, 700 block of S. Dinwiddie Street. At approximately 10:36 a.m. on January 8, an unknown male subject approached a female from behind and groped her buttocks. The suspect is described as a younger male, approximately 5’6″ and weighed 160 lbs. He was wearing a blue hoodie, green/grey cargo pants, and gray shoes.

This past weekend, a Bethesda teen was arrested after allegedly smashing a mug on a man’s head in Clarendon. According to court records, the teen’s defense attorney is state Sen. Scott Surovell.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 160109003, 3000 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 1:04 a.m. on January 9, following a verbal altercation, a 19 year-old male victim was allegedly hit over the head with a glass mug. The victim was transported to the hospital with non- life threatening injuries. Jarett Witzal, 18, of Bethesda MD was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

Long Rap Sheet for Man Charged With Sexual Battery on Columbia Pike

Nahome Gebrekidan (photo via ACPD)A 30-year-old man arrested for sexual battery and public drunkenness on Columbia Pike Monday has been arrested for being drunk in public at least 19 times since July 2011.

Nahome Gebrekidan, of no fixed address, was arrested Monday afternoon on the western end of Columbia Pike in Arlington.

Police say a woman was walking down the street just before 4:00 p.m., when she passed a man later identified as Gebrekidan.

“After they passed one another, she felt a hand go between her legs, touching her genitals over her jeans,” said Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “The suspect did not say anything to the victim and continued to walk westbound on Columbia Pike.”

Gebrekidan has been charged with sexual battery and being drunk in public. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 5.

Court records show that Gebrekidan has been charged with being drunk in public 18 times in Fairfax County and Alexandria alone, over the past four and a half years. He has also faced minor charges like trespassing and disorderly conduct in those jurisdictions.

Man Gropes Woman in Lubber Run Park, Sixth Such Attack in a Month

Arlington police carA woman was groped by a man in Lubber Run Park Friday night, the sixth such attack in Arlington in a month.

Police are still not willing to say that the attacks are the work of the same sexual assault suspect, but did say “there’s potential” that it’s a serial attacker.

The latest incident happened just after 8 p.m. on Friday, as a woman was walking down a path with her young child in Lubber Run Park, near N. George Mason Drive and Barrett Elementary School.

The 27-year-old woman saw an apparently intoxicated man approach her as she tried to get back to the busy road. As he neared, she bent down to shield her three-year-old child, and the suspect groped her, according to Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

“The victim was able to scream causing the suspect to flee,” according to a crime report. “The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his twenties, approximately 5’7″ tall with a medium build. He was wearing a solid grey t-shirt, black shorts, and black tennis shoes at the time of the incident.”

Sternbeck said there’s an “ongoing investigation” into this incident and attacks on July 25, July 31, Aug. 1, Aug. 8, and Aug. 13.

“From the suspect description provided there is a possibility it could be the same guy, but we’re not willing to suggest that quite yet,” said Sternbeck. “We have not identified or arrested the suspect or suspects involved in the attacks.”

ACPD is advising residents to trust your instincts, be aware of your surroundings, travel in groups if possible and to contact police immediately if you are a victim of a crime.
