Stabbing Reported in Nauck — Three people, a man and two women, were reportedly stabbed in Arlington’s Nauck neighborhood late last night. The stabbing followed an argument among a group of people. One man was taken into custody following the incident. [WUSA9]

Arlington Man Arrested After Sunday Night Stabbing

Police on the 3500 block of 8th Street N (photo courtesy Bill Colton)An Arlington man has been arrested and charged with a stabbing that occurred overnight, about four blocks away from the Virginia Square Metro station.

Police say a group of people were drinking heavily inside a home on the 3500 block of 8th Street N. in Ashton Heights Sunday night. Around midnight, a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation and a 25-year-old man was stabbed outside the house, suffering two puncture wounds to the chest and numerous slashes to the chest and back, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

The victim was transported to Virginia Hospital Center. His wounds are described as non-life-threatening.

Arlington resident Rafael Temaj-Jiguan, 30, was arrested by police officers who were executing a search warrant on the residence this morning. He has been charged with malicious wounding and is being held at the Arlington County jail.

Temaj-Jiguan was an acquaintance of the victim, Sternbeck said. He was previously arrested in Arlington last September and convicted on a charge of being drunk in public.

Police: Arlington Resident Celebrating Birthday Stabs Woman in Neck

Joanie Dunbar (photo courtesy ACPD)A 55-year-old Arlington woman is in jail after allegedly stabbing another woman in the neck and arm.

The incident happened on the 3200 block of 24th Street S. in Nauck early Wednesday morning. Police say Janie Dunbar was “celebrating her [July 29] birthday and consuming alcoholic beverages” just past midnight when she began arguing with the victim.

Dunbar became enraged and stabbed the woman just below the throat and in the left bicep, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. The victim suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to the trauma center at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Dunbar has been charged with malicious wounding. She’s scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on Aug. 25.

NBC4 ‘Celebrates’ Arlington — NBC4 reporter Angie Goff anchored a series of segments about Arlington this morning. Goff broadcast live from Bob & Edith’s Diner on Columbia Pike, and had a number of on-air guests. One segment — “celebrating romance in Arlington” — featured a bartender from Carpool in Ballston, County Board Vice Chair Mary Hynes and a rousing game of cornhole. [NBC Washington]

Neighbors Remember Boy Killed By Car — Neighbors are remembering 8-year-old Ashlawn Elementary School student Eli Sachar, who was killed over the weekend when he and other family members were struck by a car in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. No charges have been filed against the driver so far, though the crash remains under investigation. [WJLA]

Arlington Teens Injured in Charlottesville Stabbing — Two 19-year-old men from Arlington were stabbed in Charlottesville Saturday night. The victims were both visiting friends at UVA for the weekend. A witness said the incident started when someone threw a beer can in the direction of the two suspects. [NBC 29]

Board to Consider Art Grants — The Arlington County Board this weekend is set to consider nearly $200,000 in art grants. The Arlington Commission for the Arts has recommended the grants be distributed to 20 different local recipients. [Arlington County]

Bus Lights Bush on Fire — Firefighters responded to the Exxon station at the corner of Wilson Blvd and N. Rhodes Street in Rosslyn yesterday for a report of a bush on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, though a section of bush was denuded by the combination of flames and high water pressure. The fire was caused when a bus backed into the bush and the heat from the engine caused the shrubbery to combust. [Twitter]

UPDATED: Stabbing at Ballston Metro Station

(Updated at 1:35 p.m.) Police and paramedics swarmed the Ballston Metro station after a stabbing Sunday night.

According to WMATA, a man in his late 20s was stabbed on the station platform around 8:50 p.m. He suffered life-threatening stab wounds to his bicep and abdomen and as of Monday morning was listed in critical/stable condition, according to Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

The station manager helped apply pressure to the man’s wounds, potentially saving his life, Stessel told WJLA.

Jeffrey Kenneth Hicks mug shot (courtesy MTPD)Two people were taken into custody in connection with the stabbing but so far only one has been charged. According to Stessel, 52-year-old Jeffrey Kenneth Hicks, of no fixed address, has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding.

The circumstances that led to the stabbing are still under investigation, but Stessel said “it appears that it began as a verbal altercation that escalated to physical violence.”

Trains single-tracked past the station Sunday night while police collected evidence. On Twitter, witnesses described seeing “blood all over the platform.”

Crime Report: Man Stabbed Near Ballston Metro

(Updated at 4:25 p.m.) A man reportedly was stabbed in the chest early Wednesday morning after exchanging words with his assailant near the Ballston Metro.

From this week’s crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 131218005, 4200 block of N. Fairfax Drive. At 1:30 am on December 18, an unknown subject allegedly stabbed a 30 year-old victim in the chest after a verbal altercation. The suspect fled on foot towards the Ballston Metro. The victim was driven by a friend to Virginia Hospital center with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a black male in his thirties, approximately 5’9″ tall and 150 lbs. He was wearing a khaki colored jacket with a black vest over top of it and a light blue skullcap at the time of the incident.

New Details: ‘Brazen’ Knife Attack on Trail

Arlington County police logoA woman was stabbed three times in the neck during a “brazen” broad-daylight attack on the Four Mile Run trail on Saturday.

The attack happened around 11:00 a.m. According to new details released by police, a woman was walking down the trail in the area of Glencarlyn Park when a man approached her from behind. He motioned for the woman to get off the trail and walk into the woods, police said, but she refused and screamed for help.

The man then used a knife to stab the victim three times in the neck, said Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. Other trail users heard the woman’s screams but the man fled the scene on foot before help arrived.

The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries. She remained alert and was able to talk to officers before being transported to the trauma center at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Sternbeck said.

“The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male in his 20’s, approximately 4’8” tall and 130 lbs,” according to the police report. “He was wearing a yellow Polo shirt and dark pants.”

Police plan to talk to the victim today in an effort to get a fuller description of the suspect, possibly for the creation of a composite sketch. Sternbeck said the incident “was a very brazen attack on a Saturday morning,” and a reminder that trail users should always remain alert.

“First and foremost, be aware of your surroundings,” he said. “If you are going to go on the trail, invite a friend to go with you. It’s very rare that we see an attack on the trail where the victim is with a companion or a group. The majority of times they’re attacking a woman who’s alone.”

Earlier this year the Arlington County Police Department produced a video that details a number of safety tips for users of local trails.

Woman Attacked on Four Mile Run Trail — A man with a knife attacked a woman who was walking alone on the Four Mile Run Trail on Saturday morning. The woman suffered “minor, non-life threatening” injures. The suspect is still at large. [WJLA, NBC Washington]

Yorktown Falls in Soccer Championship — The Yorktown High School girls’ soccer team lost 2-1 to Chantilly in the Northern Region championship game on Friday. The team, which finished regional play with a 20-2 record, will still continue to the state tournament. The first round game will take place on Tuesday at Battlefield High School. [Sun Gazette]

ACPD Officers Honored for Fighting Car Theft — Three Arlington County Police officers have received state Law Enforcement Officer Awards for their work in helping to fight car theft. “LEO Award winners are selected by judges from the insurance industry, partnering law enforcement agencies and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for their exemplary actions related to Intelligence, Prevention, Enforcement and Recoveries in fighting the crime of vehicle theft,” police said in a press release. Examiner Skewers Board for Signature Bailout — The Arlington County Board “blindsided” taxpayers by approving a $250,000 bailout for Signature Theatre during a closed session, according to a Washington Examiner editorial. “Other financially struggling artistic venues have to scale back productions, sublease space or launch pledge drives when money gets tight,” the Examiner editorial board wrote. “But Signature Theatre has friends in high places who apparently believe it’s too fabulous to fail, county taxpayers be damned.” [Washington Examiner]

One Arrested After Stabbing in Buckingham

Arlington County police carA man suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury this morning when he was stabbed in the Buckingham neighborhood.

The incident happened just before 7:00 a.m.

Police say the victim had been drinking all night and was making noise outside of a garden-style apartment building on the 4200 block of 2nd Road N. An angry resident came out and confronted the man about the noise, and a verbal altercation ensued, according to Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

During the argument, the resident pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the left torso, below the armpit, Sternbeck said.

The victim was transported to George Washington University Hospital and is expected to be okay. The suspect is in custody and is being interviewed by police.

Four Arrested After Stabbing Near Ballston

Police car (file photo)Four men were arrested after a stabbing near Ballston early Saturday morning.

A large fight was reported in the area of N. Glebe Road and Henderson Road just past midnight. Police arrived on scene and took three suspects into custody. One additional suspect tried to flee the scene and was apprehended a short distance away, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Police then found a man who had been stabbed, who had fled from the scene earlier but collapsed in front of Union Jack’s (671 N. Glebe Road). The man was stabbed seven times in the torso, upper body, groin and thigh area, Sternbeck said. Staff from the restaurant came out with towels to try to put pressure on his wounds.

The 32-year-old victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries. Sternbeck said the man was combative and uncooperative with officers.

The four suspects who were taken into custody were all charged with malicious wounding in connection with the stabbing. Police identified the suspects as 23-year-old David Bhatti of Arlington, 24-year-old Heber Amaya-Gallo of Arlington, 20-year-old Gustavo Lopez of Annandale, and 23-year-old Naveed Mughal of Arlington.

Both Amaya-Gallo and Lopez have recent arrest records in Arlington. Amaya-Gallo has been previously arrested for malicious wounding and assault on a police officer, and Lopez has been arrested for grand theft auto and fleeing from police.

All four suspects are being held without bond.

Crime Report: Mustachioed Man Pistol-Whips Ball Thrower

Sig Sauer handgun (photo via Sig Sauer)Police are looking for a man who allegedly pistol-whipped a ball-throwing bar-goer near Clarendon.

The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23. Police say a group of friends were returning from a bar and throwing a ball around, when the ball struck a black Range Rover that was driving by.

The owner of the SUV — described as a skinny man with a moustache and a foreign accent — got out of the vehicle and allegedly pistol-whipped the victim. The suspect then fled the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 03/23/13, 3300 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At 3:33 am on March 23, three friends walking home from the bar were throwing a ball between them when it struck a moving vehicle. The driver of the black Range Rover stopped and brandished a handgun. The subject exited his vehicle and struck the victim in the right cheek with the firearm. The subject fled the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” tall with a thin build and a mustache. He had dark hair and spoke with a foreign accent.

Also in this week’s crime report, a woman is accused of stabbing her husband twice with a kitchen knife. The alleged incident took place in an apartment three blocks from the Courthouse Metro station.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 03/20/13, 2100 block of N. 18th Street. At 6:15 pm on March 20, a subject and her husband got into a physical altercation. The subject stabbed the victim twice with a kitchen knife. The victim was stabbed once in the left side of his chest and once in his left arm. The victim was transported to George Washington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Shavonne Duncan, 46, of Arlington, VA was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. She is currently being held without bond.
