The county’s three “sprayground” parks opened for business over the weekend, just in time for our first heat wave of the year.

The kid-friendly water parks will be open through Labor Day. Due to budget cuts last year, the parks will continue operating under reduced hours.

Arlington’s sprayground parks include Drew Playground (3514 22nd Street S.), Hayes Park (1516 N. Lincoln Street) and Lyon Village Park (1800 N. Highland Street).

The county is hoping to open a fourth spraygound park near Pentagon City next year.

To help you get through this cold, rainy November day, we thought it might be a good time to go through the archives and find some of the “hottest” stories of the summer.

These are not necessarily the most important stories — rather, they’re just intended to get your mind off the cold and on to something from those hot, humid, hazy days of summer.

It’s Labor Day, the day when we traditionally mourn the end of summer (even though the official start of fall is more than two weeks away and at least two more 90+ degree days are predicted this week).

With the pools getting ready to close and the kids going back to school, we ask:

Has this summer gone faster or slower than usual? And are you excited for fall or sad about the end of summer?
