District Taco Gets New Neighbor — The new District Taco in Rosslyn will soon have a new neighbor at 1500 Wilson Blvd. A Wells Fargo bank is “coming soon” to a next-door ground floor retail space. Scaled-Down Long Bridge Aquatics Center Proposed — Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz last night proposed a scaled-down version of the Long Bridge Park aquatics center. Congressional Delegation Writes to NPS Director — Arlington’s congressional delegation — Sen. Mark Warner, Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Don Beyer — has written to National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis, urging him to make sure NPS applies for a “FASTLANE” grant for reconstruction of the decaying Memorial Bridge, before the April 14 application deadline. Millions for Melwood from Local Couple — An Arlington couple has donated $3 million of their estate to Melwood, which provides services and job opportunities to those with disabilities. The donors are Geraldine “Gerry” Schaeffer, a prominent local psychiatrist who died in 2013, and her husband Peter M. Kolls, a former pro football player for the San Diego Chargers who retired from the National Park Service. Kolls passed away last year. The couple loved to travel but otherwise lived frugally, we’re told. The gift is one of the largest received by Maryland-based Melwood, according to a press release.

Arlington Teacher and Principal of the Year — McKinley Elementary principal Colin Brown has been named the 2016 Arlington Public Schools Principal of the Year. Oakridge Elementary teacher Jennifer Burgin, meanwhile, has been named Teacher of the Year.

“Everyone Keeping Their Clothes On So Far?” Asks TV News Anchor Right Before Flasher Walks By in Clarendon

A local TV news report from Clarendon took an ironic and not-safe-for-work turn Saturday night when a woman walked by and flashed the camera, live on the air.

During the station’s 11 p.m. news broadcast, ABC 7 anchor Kimberly Suiters tossed to Virginia bureau chief Jeff Goldberg, who was about to introduce his story on that day’s Shamrock Crawl bar crawl.

“Everyone keeping their clothes on?” asked Suiters, apparently referencing earlier instances in which drunken bar crawl attendees stripped naked and were arrested.

Immediately after Goldberg began answering — “so far, Kimberly” — a woman walked by and flashed her breasts. The split-second moment was captured in this NSFW YouTube clip.

A bit flustered, Goldberg nonetheless continued his report, which highlighted how there were no major incidents and only nine minor arrests for drunken behavior during the bar crawl.

“So, anyway,” Goldberg said as the brief YouTube clip ended.

Why Car2Go Can’t Cross the Border — Car2Go car-sharing service is launching in Arlington on Sept. 19, but users won’t be able to drive from Arlington and park in D.C., or vice versa. The District, which also has Car2Go service, is worried about traffic congestion and a loss of parking spaces to Arlington Car2Go users. Arlington officials have also expressed concern about allowing D.C. users park on Arlington streets, but appear more receptive to opening the Car2Go border. [Washington Post]

APS Menus Now Online — Arlington Public Schools has put its breakfast and lunch menus online. Nonprofits Moving from D.C. to Crystal City — Property owner Vornado has scored another new lease in Crystal City: the International Foundation for Electoral Systems. Fairlington’s ‘Monica the Medium’ to Premiere Tonight on ABC Family

Monica Ten-Kate, a 21-year-old with ties to Fairlington, will make her big television debut tonight.

“Monica the Medium,” a new reality series on ABC Family starring Ten-Kate, will premiere tonight at 8 p.m. The show will follow Ten-Kate as she attends Penn State and navigates the pitfalls of dating, all while supposedly communing with her classmates’ dead relatives.

Ten-Kate graduated from Oakton High School in Fairfax County in 2012 but her business is registered to a Fairlington condo owned by her father.

Ten-Kate has been making the rounds promoting her series on this week on shows like The Insider and Access Hollywood Live.
