Update at 5:15 p.m. — Residents of the Avalon Clarendon apartments at Market Common Clarendon are being told they should consider booking a hotel room, as power for two of the three buildings is not expected to be restored until Wednesday. Management sent the following email to residents Tuesday evening.

Dear Residents,

While we are still awaiting additional details from Dominion Virginia Power on the full repairs, please know that we are actively working on a temporary solution. Our third party contractor is currently making every effort to get temporary power to the East and West buildings. They are working to get generators here tonight; however the connection process will take into tomorrow to complete.  Please note that temporary power does not include elevators, hot water or A/C.

We recommend each resident to make the best decision for their own comfortability as far as staying in your home or searching for a hotel. While many hotels are booked, we have found 3 that may still have availability.
Hilton Arlington 703-538-6000
Hilton Garden Inn DC 202-783-7800
Hilton Garden Inn Shirlington 703-820-0440

We will have associates monitoring the stairwells and doors throughout the evening, available to escort residents up the stairs to their apartments, as well as our Concierge on duty at the Front Desk.

We will send additional updates as we receive them. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through this.

Thank you,

Avalon Clarendon Team

Lilly Pulitzer signature store The Pink Palm has opened its new store in Clarendon.

The store, at 2871 Clarendon Blvd, is the company’s fifth. It opened two weeks ago, after moving to Clarendon from their now-closed McLean location. The store is located in the former Knightsbridge Trading Co. space.

“We are so excited to be in Arlington because it is in the middle of where our prime demographic is,” said Pink Palm owner Lizanne Jeveret.

The privately-owned Lily Pulitzer store carries clothes, accessories and gifts. As a signature store, non-apparel brands such as Jack Rogers and Kendra Scott are also sold.

Customers can earn points for every purchase they make with the customer loyalty program. For every $500 spent, a $20 in store credit will be rewarded.

“We focus on getting to know our customers and we have a very specific interaction with our customers,” said Jeveret.

Aside from dropping by the store, customers can also order products online. Other Pink Palm locations include Alexandria, Bethesda, Richmond and Charlottesville.

County Board Debate Preaches to Choir — Arlington County Board candidates Libby Garvey and Erik Gutshall participated in a debate Sunday night. Reported the Washington Post: “Nearly all the 50 people in the Campbell Elementary School audience Sunday night were campaign workers or committed supporters for each candidate.” In a new line of attack, Gutshall criticized Garvey for a $250 donation from a real estate developer she accepted in 2011. Campaign Criticism Prompts Reactions — Supporters of County Board candidate Erik Gutshall have penned a joint statement defending some of his attacks on Libby Garvey as substantive policy issues. However, there appears to be something of a backlash to two of Gutshall’s campaign mailers — at least among those who write letters to the Sun Gazette. County Board member Christian Dorsey, meanwhile, has published a statement on what he says is a “mischaracterization” of Garvey’s (and thus, the Board’s) record. Update at 1 p.m. on June 4 — The store will open on Thursday, June 16, 7-Eleven’s Christopher Decre said Saturday.

Earlier: A new 7-Eleven store appears ready to open any day now in Clarendon.

The store is located at 3137 Wilson Blvd, in the former Public Shoe Store space, next to CVS.

The convenience store’s interior appears to be mostly completed, though shelves have yet to be stocked. A stylized “7-Eleven” sign, in keeping with the building’s architecture, was recently mounted above the entrance.

Asked if they knew when the store would be opening, a pair of construction workers working on the entrance replied, “mañana.” Thus far, 7-Eleven has not responded to a request for comment.
